Starlings Class – Key Stage 1 – year 1 and 2 (5-7 years old)

Class teacher – Mrs. Katarina Jarratt

TA – Mrs. Julie Sutherland/Mrs. Fran Buxey

In Starlings class, the children join their older friends to take advantage of a bigger friendship group, but also to learn from and support each other. The children start the year with gentle transition from learning through play to more structured key stage 1 curriculum.

We believe that happy children find learning fun, and aim to create a safe, secure, fun environment where children are encouraged to ‘have a go’, take risks and develop a life-long love of learning. Our curriculum is structured around half-termly topics that engage the children’s natural desire to explore and learn. When children have the confidence to ask questions, make mistakes and learn from them, take themselves out of their comfort zone and persevere, that’s when they achieve the most. In our class, we are committed to bringing out the best in each child by promoting a ‘can do’ attitude and positive mindset. We aim to equip them with skills and confidence to be who they want to be. The uniqueness of each child is valued and celebrated on our very special ‘proud cloud’.

We understand the importance of the environment in our young pupils’ lives, which is why we invest a lot of time and effort in updating our provision regularly to reflect the topic and interests of our children.  We are fortunate to have amazing grounds, where we engage in a plethora of active outdoor learning opportunities, including forest school, pond dipping, bug hunting, growing plants in the allotment area and others.

Come and visit. We would love to show you around!
